1. UNDER CARDIAC ARREST

(© KEITH REED, 1992)

This play takes place at an awards banquet for Dr. Barbara Sutherland, world renowned cardiac surgeon. Dr. Barbara, as she is affectionately known, will receive the ASCENDING AORTA AWARD, the highest award which can be bestowed by the esteemed American College of Cardiac Surgeons. Attending are Dr. Barbara's husband, orthodontist Dr. Paul Sutherland, Albert Knight, a Police lieutenant and Barbara's brother, Kathleen Knight, Albert's wife, and Allison Knight, Barbara's sister. Also attending are Sir John Percival, a British expatriate, very wealthy, and a lifelong friend of the Knight family, Amanda Prigg, Sir John's personal secretary, and Dr. Henry Tollefson, Barbara's mentor. Rounding out the guests is Lee Parker, professional organizer, who set up the party.

This murder will prove taxing for these amateur sleuths, as it requires a great deal of interaction with cast and other audience members to track the scenes.

2.CARIBBEAN CRUISE CONSPIRACY

Welcome aboard the S.S. Victoria, flagship of the Cozy Comfy Cruise Line! This very special cruise is to honor Captain Thomas Moorhead on this, the twenty fifth anniversary of his service to the line. On board are the owner of the Cruise line, Victoria Boswell, her husband, Dr. Robert Boswell, Robert and Victoria's daughter Julia, and crewmembers First Officer Stuart Milbender, Cruise Director Karen Granger, Assistant Purser Charlie Bankhead and Chief of Security, Lee Wood.

This is one of our most popular plays, especially for a midwinter getaway. The cruise motif helps the audience forget about what is really happening outdoors and really start to believe they are at sea.

3. A TALENT FOR MURDER

(© KEITH REED, 1993)

This is a play designed for a large cast, and has been utilized by a High School for their Spring production. It involves a talent contest (the Midwest Upper Regional District Entertainment Recital, (M.U.R.D.E.R.)) which is being judged by none other than the world famous New York Producer Mr. Ricardo Monjeau. The contestants utilize their talents to try to win a part in Mr. Monjeau's next production. Besides Mr. Monjeau, the cast consists of the overbearing Emcee Buddy Waskowicz, Dr. Broderick Martineau, the contest organizer, Penny Odell, Mr. Monjeau's assistant, six contestants, four judges, two technical staff, and two police officers and musical accompaniment.

A great play for a large group. The solution is complex and requires the audience to be very aware of every scene acted out.

4. TAKING STOCK OF MURDER

(© KEITH REED, 1993, 1995)

Welcome to the new President and Chairman of the Board of Foxworth Chemicals, Mr. Thomas Foxworth. Thomas has just wrested control of the company from his father, the founder of the family enterprise, William Foxworth. Through underhanded dealings, blind stock purchases and a proxy fight, Thomas has fulfilled his lifelong dream of leading the company. Placing his father in a figurehead position, Thomas is now the villain of the family. He is supported by some, however, especially his wife, Patricia, a somewhat successful attorney. Also in attendance are Carin Winslow the corporate secretary, Portia, Thomas's younger sister, her fiancée, Tim Porter who is a Police officer, and Alan Foxworth, brother to Portia and Thomas and an environmental activist.   Old family friend and chief of security at Foxworth Chemicals is Mel Martin, and rounding out this affair is Abby Foxworth, William's sister.

At this party the issue of company chairmanship will be settled. Abruptly. The twist ending to this mystery makes this puzzle one of the most enjoyable and difficult to solve.

5. REUNITED WITH MURDER

(© KEITH REED, 1994)

This is the fiftieth anniversary, all-class reunion of Mortify High School. Mortify High has a shady reputation: it seems that every ten years when this reunion takes place, a murder has occurred. And despite all precautions, this proves to be no exception.

Head of the Reunion Committee, Winston F. Porter III brings an effete air to the proceedings. He is not particularly excited about being here with the rabble he thought he had left behind.   He was brought by his wife, Carol Weems-Porter, former cheerleader, homecoming queen and voted most likely to marry into success.

Thomas Q. Kant, existential poet, is here, but noone remembers him by that name. He was the nerdy Melvin Waters while in school. Penny Poppet, owner of a chain of women's specialty shops, is also an alumnus of Mortify High. Her assistant, Harry Dudley, a graduate as well, is a world traveler and importer.

Others include Trish Connor, Sarah Blackstone and the mysterious Glenda Dallas. Bruce Binkman, now security specialist, is in charge of making sure nothing untoward occurs this evening. He does not succeed.

6. BACKSTAGE PASS

(© KEITH REED, 1995)

Join former rock superstar Johnny Gladstone and other classic rock stars, agents and groupies as they get together after many years to reunite, honor their own and plan for the future. But waiting in the wings is our old friend murder. Who is responsible? Rock promoter Kelly Robbins, who served five years for attempted murder before? Johnny's intensely jealous wife Glenda? Groupie and stalker Patty Bracken, or one of the others invited to this party? These former show-biz greats all have one thing in common: a love of good old fashioned rock 'n' roll. One of them, however, has something quite different in mind.   This solution, as well, is one of the more complex ones, requiring a concentrated effort on the part of the sleuths to ferret out the killer.

 8. HOCUS POCUS

The Great Merlini is one of the world’s greatest magicians, at least in his own mind. His chief rival for the title is Mephisto. Tonight they intend to have it out, with a special magic show.

Last week, Merlini, Mephisto and his wife Cassandra, Rita Robles, and Frankie Fenshaw were at a special show of magic at the world famous Rhinelander Mansion, a museum and still the home of 97 year old matriarch Rosetta Rhinelander. Shortly after the show, Mrs. Rhinelander called the police to report the theft of approximately one million dollars worth of antique jewelry from a locked case in the mansion’s library. The library had been the “green room” for the performers, so it is apparent that one of those present was responsible for the theft. Digitator is here to find out which one.

9. CABIN FEVER

(© KEITH REED, 1995, 2004)

The scene is the banquet hall at Blankenship Lodge, a resort on the shores of Mortify Lake. Mortify Lake is a small northern Minnesota lake deep in the pine forest. The guests are expecting a fun-filled weeklong adventure of skiing, fishing, hiking and just relaxing.

Blankenship Lodge is owned by one Colonel Geoffrey Blankenship, of late of Her Majesty’s Royal Army. Col. Blankenship owned the Blankenship Cottage (actually a castle) in Sussex up until he was forced to sell it for tax liens and to cover gambling debts. No longer welcome on British soil, he moved to the northern woods of Minnesota. Accompanying Col. Blankenship is his old friend and former aide-de-camp Sgt. Major (ret.) Benjamin Tofte whom the Colonel employs as his property manater.  Also in attendance are Madge Dulik, duly elected County Sheriff and fishing guide, David Harleyson, the handyman,.  Is the crusty Colonel back to his old ways?
